TWO sisters had a hair raising experience in a bid to help their cousin with breast cancer. Kathleen Day and Karen Bester showed their support for their cousin Rosalyn Mayer undergoing chemotherapy by shaving their heads. Rosalyn lives in South Africa – where people have to pay for their own treatment. They did the deed at Kathleen’s house in Meadowsweet Walk on Wednesday.

“It was very traumatic,” she said

Blu-ray for beginners

0 Comments | Concord Monitor, Mar 19, 2010 | by CLAY WIRESTONE

You’ve seen the aisles at Walmart or Target or Best Buy. You’ve seen the distinctive short DVD cases, often with blue tops. You might have heard a stray reference, on TV or from a younger family member. But you’re still not quite sure.

What is Blu-ray? And do you need it?

Blu-Ray discs are the next generation of DVDs. They’ve been around for the past few years, but they broke into the mainstream over the last holiday season. People are buying Blu-ray players, picking up Blu-ray discs, and readying themselves for (as the format’s promoters put it) an entirely new way to watch movies at home.

Well, maybe. Here are questions to consider before making an upgrade.

Do you have a high-definition TV?

The traditional, boxy TV had 480 lines of resolution. When you looked at the screen up close, you could see them, narrow horizontal lines that made up the images on the screen

Some invest by market sector

July 28th, 2010

Some invest by market sector (e.g., healthcare vs. telecommunications), stage (seed stage vs. later stage), geography, or a combination of these. Many hours must be dedicated to determine which investors are the right fit for your venture. This process involves creating a master investor list, visiting each investor?s website to view investment criteria and past investments, and determining who is the right contact at the firm.

To see how easily the time adds up, consider that only about 25% of prospective investors who show an initial interest in a transaction actually progress to detailed company due diligence. Only about 10% of this 25% actually progress to a bonafide offer of funds, of which only 25% of these actually result in an investment transaction. So completing a financing transaction requires, on average, contacting approximately 160 pre-qualified prospective investors.

The due diligence process, where investors scrutinize the investment, can also be very time consuming for the company. Investors often request many documents, some of which can be easily retrieved from files (e.g., prior tax returns), while others may take more time to prepare (e.g., additional market analysis, customer lists with past purchases, contact information, etc.).

You will be

July 28th, 2010

You will be given the materials and instruction necessary and the dentist will makehim/herself available to answer any questions that you may have. The dentist must make molds of the mouth and then has soft mouth trays made to ensure the correct amount of gel is used. Once the patient is fitted with the trays, the dentist instructs the patient to insert a thin ribbon of gel (Carbamine peroxide gels 10-20%) into the tray. The session can last 2-3 hours although dentists recommend that the trays be worn while sleeping. Whitening of the teeth will begin to show within 1-2 weeks.

Best results seem to occur with a combination of both procedures resulting in a whitening of up to 12-15 shades. However, be aware that white fillings, porcelain crowns and bridges will not whiten to the same degree with either method.

Link road to bypass south choke-point [Kolkata ]

0 Comments | Times of India, The, Jul 26, 2010

Kolkata: How about bypassing a section of the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass? And bypassing a connector too?

That’s the way ahead for those who take the Santoshpur connector, linking Raja SC Mullick Road and EM Bypass. By December, commuters along this route will be able to avoid the zig-zag road beyond Jora-bridge in Santoshpur while travelling to EM Bypass and emerge a kilometre and a half ahead near Purbalok, bang opposite the Metro Cash & Carry warehouse.

Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is currently building a 40-metre bridge across the Guniagachha canal and the existing road from the Bypass to Jora Bridge along New Horizon School and Santoshpur stadium is being widened and strengthened to carry more traffic.

The road to Santoshpur from the Bypass now meanders through a long stretch, making it an extremely long and tiring to reach Santoshpur and subsequently Jadavpur. The bottleneck at Ajoynagar makes it even worse. Every day, this part of Kolkata sees traffic jams which gets worse in the morning and evening peak hours. With thousands of vehicles burning up fuel in bumper-to-bumper jams, there is a spurt in pollution, too

PERSONAL trainers in Cheltenham showed how it is done with a three-hour endurance test.

Five members of The Fitness Team were put through their paces to raise money for Help For Heroes.

The personal trainers completed an hour of cycling, rowing and running at the Prince of Wales Stadium on Saturday.

Their efforts raised Pounds 550 for Gym for Heroes.

Director of the company Charlotte Wanford said: “We thought it was a really worthwhile cause and we have friends who are in the RAF.

“They did brilliantly although they found the rowing quite hard.”

The participants had plenty of support with clients turning out to cheer them on and youngsters throwing sponges at them as they completed laps of the running track.

The Fitness Team, which is based at the Prince of Wales Stadium, is also holding a raffle.

USA Technologies Unveils ePort Wireless Test Kit

0 Comments | Manufacturing Close – Up, Apr 3, 2010

USA Technologies, Inc., a supplier of networked devices and wireless non-cash transactions, associated financial/network services and energy management, announced the launch of its ePort Wireless Test Kit designed to test for optimum wireless signal strength when installing the Company’s ePort line of wireless cashless payment devices.

“Customers told us they wanted a simple and accurate way to survey wireless signal strength for maximum operational effectiveness when deploying their cashless vending machines, or unattended POS terminals,” said Ron Fridman, Vice President, Technology and Product Development of USA Technologies, Inc. “The Wireless Test Kit is a tool that we believe gives customers an easy, inexpensive and reliable way to test signal strength for wireless, cashless technology, before or during deployment.”

The company said the ePort Wireless Test Kit is equipped with a Wireless RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indicator) Meter that reads the available wireless signal strength and measures the quality of the signal to maximize the operational reliability of the ePort wireless card reader. The kit gives operators the ability to survey the suitability of market locations where they are considering adding the ePort Cashless Payments System to their vending machines, kiosks or other self-service retail machines. The Wireless Test Kit enables owners and operators to determine in advance if sufficient wireless signal is available, if additional parts are required to boost the signal, or if alternative methods of connectivity should be considered.

“USA Technologies has developed a wireless test kit that is easy to use, reliable, and takes the guesswork out of deploying cashless to our vending machines in the field,” said Tom Beals, Director of Operations, Southern Refreshments. “It’s a tremendous benefit, before we talk to the customer, to know that a location is well suited for wireless connectivity, or to work with USAT on how to boost signal where it’s weak. The signal strength testing becomes part of deployment planning and there are no surprises once the ePort card reader is installed

Aloe vera seemed

July 28th, 2010

Aloe vera seemed to be a staple in everyone’s home growing up for it’s skin repairing benefits.

Two more ingredients you may find in these natural preparations are alpha lipoic acid and collagen, both of which are actually beneficial for both aging skin and skin suffering from disorders such as acne or acne rosacea. Alpha lipoic acid is gaining a lot of recognition in recent years, especially with the publication and advocation of popular cosmetic dermatologist Nicholas Perricone in his book The Perricone Prescription and other popular follow up books on how to stop and reverse the aging process of the skin.

Other skin cleansing, purifying and balancing ingredients botanicals found in the acne pill are chamomile, rosemary, rose essential oil, and horsetail, all traditionally used to clear, tone and purify the skin for the most blemish-free complexion possible, even back as far as the early 1800′s.

The bottom line is, I highly recommend investing in either a natural acne system that combines topical treatment with an oral acne pill or just investing in a natural acne remedy that is high in purity standards and has a good track record of customer satisfaction.

Oregon's reputation could be hurting commercial development

Oregon’s reputation could be hurting commercial development

Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR), May 21, 2010 by Nick Bjork

Could Oregon’s label of being unfriendly to big business be hurting the local commercial real estate market?

The Oregonian’s Brent Hunsberger reported today that Oregon ranks 38 on the Chief Executive magazine’s annual survey of best and worst states to do business in. Oregon fell 14 spots from last year, most notably because of Measure 66 and 67, which imposes new taxes on businesses and the upper-income brackets.

Look at the recent decision by the Eugene-based Farwest Steel to purchase 22 acres at the Port of Vancouver. Even though the Port cited consolidation and access to the rail line as Farwest’s main reasons for building a new 3,000-square-foot facility on the property, it’s hard not to think that increased corporate taxes in Oregon didn’t have something to do with it.

Why build a new facility if you are consolidating? And why choose the Port of Vancouver for rail car access when the Port of Portland just signed a lease with a new operator for Terminal 6 that stressed rail access as one of its main reasons for coming to Portland?

Farwest has to do what’s best for its company. But I’m sure there are plenty of landlords in the Rivergate Corporate Park that would have welcomed Farwest with open arms.

Fortunately, what Oregon lacks in business friendliness, it makes up for with livability

When you are feeling

July 28th, 2010

When you are feeling fully alive, what is going on for you?

2. How do you feel as you walk into your workspace? Into your home?

3. On a scale from 1-5, with 5 being the most desirable, how much would you say your environments are supporting you in living the life you most desire?

4. What is something in your environment that you are tolerating that could be removed?

5. What is something that is missing from your personal environments that, if added, would inspire you to do and be your best?

6. What methods do you use on a daily basis to raise your energy level?

7. What beliefs most profoundly affect your way of thinking?

TRY THIS
If inspiration is an energy that flows through the spaces we inhabit, it is wise for us to remove any items that might block its path, and add items that would increase its presence.

Choose one physical environment in your workspace or home to concentrate on. If you could change one thing in your surroundings starting today, what would you change? Each day, do one task in that environment to establish order, create space, remove items that block your creativity, add items that you love, perhaps add color – and design surroundings that will inspire you to be and do your best.

Creating an environment that truly supports you in being your best can be a very worthwhile long-term project.
